An expert panel is to review the evidence for cervical cancer screening for women under 25. Pressure from medical charities and the media, including a campaign by The Sun newspaper has prompted ministers to look at whether screening in England should start at 20 instead of 25. The Government's cancer tsar, Professor Mike Richards said "Let's be clear, we have said we will undertake a formal review of the evidence. We are not committing ourselves to a change in policy." Health minister Ann Keen said: "Cervical screening saves 4,500 lives every year and we want to ensure that our programme remains in the best interests of young women."
